How to Add a Webcam Overlay on Windows

Bandicam lets you add a webcam overlay to your recording and apply AI-powered webcam background effects. You can blur the webcam background, make it transparent, replace it with a virtual background, or add your own background image. To use this feature, download and install Bandicam 2027.

Click the webcam overlay icon in the main Bandicam window to add a webcam overlay.

• Add webcam overlay to video: Add the webcam overlay to your recording.
• Save webcam recording as MP4: Save the webcam recording as a separate MP4 file.
• Webcam overlay settings: Open the webcam overlay settings.

Use the sections below to add and customize a webcam overlay for each recording mode.

[Screen Recording Mode]: Record Your Screen with a Webcam Overlay

Use the control bar to customize the webcam overlay. The webcam is recorded only while it is on.

Step 1. Select Rectangle on a screen or Fullscreen.

Click the arrow next to Screen Recording Mode and select Rectangle on a screen or Fullscreen.

After selecting Rectangle on a screen, click the webcam overlay icon on the control bar to turn the webcam screen on or off.

After selecting Fullscreen, click the webcam overlay icon on the control bar to turn the webcam screen on or off.

Step 2. Hover over the webcam screen to show the webcam controls.

When you move the mouse over the webcam screen, the following controls appear:

• Original Background: Show the original webcam background.
• Blur: Blur the webcam background.
• Transparent: Remove the webcam background and make it transparent.
• Settings: Open the webcam overlay settings. See Webcam Overlay Settings below.
• Maximize webcam screen: Enlarge the webcam screen.

Step 3. Move or resize the webcam overlay.

You can drag the webcam screen to move it anywhere on the screen, or resize it with the mouse.

Step 4. Record your screen with the webcam overlay.

After setting up the webcam overlay, click the REC button to start recording.

[Game Recording Mode]: Record Gameplay with a Webcam Overlay

In Game Recording mode, enable the webcam overlay and configure the related options before you start recording gameplay.

Step 1. Enable the webcam overlay and configure the options.

Click the gear-shaped Settings icon, go to the Video tab, click the Settings button, and configure the options in the Webcam tab.

• To add the webcam overlay, check Add webcam overlay to video.
• Click Overlay settings to customize the webcam device and other overlay options. See Webcam Overlay Settings below.
• Enable Preview webcam on screen and Enable preview toggle hotkey to show or hide the webcam preview while recording.
  • The default hotkey is Tab, and it can be changed.
  • Even if you hide the webcam preview, the webcam overlay will still appear in the recorded video.

Step 2. Open the game and start recording.

After setting up the webcam overlay, open the game and click the REC button to start recording.

[Settings]: Customize the Webcam Overlay

Webcam overlay settings apply to both Screen Recording mode and Game Recording mode. You can open these settings from the webcam overlay menu in the main Bandicam window or from the webcam controls.

• Device / format: Select the webcam device and format.
• Flip / Rotate: Flip or rotate the webcam screen.
• Border: Customize the border color, thickness, and faded border thickness.
• Background: Blur or remove the webcam background, choose a virtual background, or add your own background image.
• Shape: Change the webcam overlay shape.
• Overlay size and position: Adjust the webcam overlay size and position.
