How to Record Videos with Higher FPS

Do you want to get higher FPS? FPS means frames per second. With a higher FPS, you can get a more natural video (smooth motion). Regularly, movies are 24 FPS and TV is 30 FPS. However, due to the rapid development of technology, people want to get higher FPS such as 60 FPS, 120 FPS and even 144 FPS. Bandicam allows users to capture their gameplay up to 144 FPS with DirectX/OpenGL/UWP/Vulkan hooking and hardware acceleration technologies.

To increase the frame rate (FPS) of your video, please try some solutions below:

1. Upgrade your hardware for better FPS

FPS is closely related to the performance of a system. If the performance of the computer is not good enough, the computer will slow down and you will not get enough FPS. If you upgrade your graphics card, CPU and RAM, you will get better FPS.
- Hardware factors for better FPS: GPU, CPU > RAM > SSD, HDD

2. Update your graphics card driver

If your graphics card driver is not installed properly, you will not be able to get a high FPS. To increase the FPS, check your graphics card model and download the latest graphics card driver from your graphics card manufacturer's website.

3. Reduce the resolution of the recording target

If you reduce the resolution of the recording target, you will be able to get higher FPS.

4. Select 60 FPS, 120 FPS or 144 FPS

If you change the FPS (Frames Per Second) value to 60/120/144, you will get a 60/120/144 FPS video if you have a modern computer which can handle this higher FPS. However, if the performance of the computer is not good enough, the computer will slow down or there will be a skipping phenomenon. If you can't get 60/120/144 FPS, please set the FPS to the default value (30).

5. Use a hardware-accelerated H.264 encoder to increase FPS

Bandicam optimizes recording performance by using a hardware-accelerated H.264 encoder. If your graphics card supports the hardware-acceleration, you will be able to get higher FPS while recording. Normally, you will get higher FPS with H264 (NVIDIA NVENC) or H264 (AMD VCE) instead of H264 (Intel Quick Sync Video).

6. Use a desktop instead of a laptop to get better FPS

If you have a decent gaming laptop, you will be able to get good FPS while playing. However, you will not get enough FPS while recording because the gaming laptop has to execute and record a game all at once. Remember, a desktop is much powerful than a laptop.

7. If you use an NVIDIA graphics card, select "Prefer maximum performance"

1) If you use the 'Game Recording Mode', set the game to maximum performance at the NVIDIA Control Panel.
2) If you use the 'Screen Recording Mode' or 'Device Recording Mode', set Bandicam to maximum performance.

(NVIDIA Control Panel -> Manage 3D settings -> Program Settings -> Add 'the game or Bandicam' -> Select "Prefer maximum performance" at the Power management mode.)

8. Plug your graphics card into the primary slot on the motherboard

If you put your graphics card into the secondary slot, please plug your graphics card into the primary graphics card slot.

9. Other solutions

- If you use multiple monitors, play and record the target On the primary monitor.
- If you upgrade your OS to Windows 8 or Windows 10, you will get higher FPS.
- If you play a game, go to the game's video settings, and turn off anti-aliasing, shadows, etc.
- Please close other unnecessary programs before you start recording.
