Recording phone videos

This has been a real buggaboo since I've been using bandicam. When I select a certain area on a phone video, that is in a vertical orientation, if I only want to record a certain area, but have the output be 16:9 ratio, it comes out all distorted. Is there a solution for this or am I not using the correct video aspect ratio? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
