Integer Scaling option for the Video Size

Mon Sep 12, 2022 2:47 am

I think "Integer Scaling" should be built into Video Size setting of the Video Format settings. We currently have "Half Size". The "Integer Scaling" would use the Width text-field for the integer number used to multiply the width of the recorded area, and the Height text-field for the integer number used to multiply the height of the recorded area.

For example, a 4x3 Integer Scalign would turn a 100x100 recording area into a 400x300 video and a single pixel (1x1) of recording area into a 4x3 of video, and a 2x2 Integer Scaling would turn a 960x540p recording area into a 1920x1080p video, without using an app like Integer Scaler, and without needing to run the app at the resulted resolution.

By integer scaling I mean that on the axis of the scaling each pixel would be multiplied by the value of the chosen integer.

Also, please let us use the percentage sign (%) in the Custom setting, like it is used in the Full Size and Half Size options.

Hello Sapioit,

We have forwarded your request to our development team.
Thank you for your suggestion.

Thank you very much!

This is an extension of the suggestion, but aside for integer-scaling, you could also add FSR for non-integer scaling to higher resolution than the recorded area. That way, at the price of some more processing power, we would be able to slightly upscale the videos, like from 1600x900 to 1920x1080. And you could also add those upscaling methods to Bandicut, so we could record the videos with less processing power and upscale them later on.

Thank you for your time!

I think it would be more efficient to simply implement Nearest Neighbour video upscaling, and let the users choose if they want to integer-upscale by simply doubling the height and width, or upscale to non-integer multiplied resolution.

Ideally, you should find a way to integrate FSR (1, 2.0, and 2.1), XeSS, as well as the hardware-dependent RSR (from AMD), DLSS and NSI (from NVidiat), to upscale the video created.

Is there any update about upscaling the recording while recording?

If you have a 4K monitor and want to play a more demanding game with a weaker GPU, integer scaling can help there too. In this case, you can scale the game to 1080p, thus making it less demanding on a weaker graphics card. You'll still have a sharper and better-quality image with better performance, too.
